Gregg Pullano General That "rolling rust heap" is right at home on that train...hauling pigs and stacks were what they were built to do for the Seaboard. 2/19/2007 11:59:22 AM

Richard Piotter General That middle locomotive was a true one of a kind. An SD50M-3, originally Dakota Minnesota & Eastern 5000, later a lease unit as MPEX 5000. It was made from a cabless ATSF SD45B, and a spare cab from Morrison Knudsen's MK5000C line. They made 7 cabs, but only assembled 6 units. The MK5000Cs had issues with their Caterpillar engines, and were rebuilt with EMD engines and renamed as the MK50-3. I very often see DME 5000/MPEX 5000 photos mislabeled as an MK50-3. It's correct type is SD50M-3 3/17/2020 11:39:15 PM
